DAZ Importer version 1.1



This is the documentation page for the stable version 1.1 of the DAZ importer. Documentation about the old version 1.0 is found here.

The DAZ importer is a tool for importing files for DAZ Studio (DAZ User File *.duf, DAZ System File *.dsf) into Blender. It also contains some tools to make the assets more animation friendly.

 Instructions:
  1. Save the zip file somewhere on your computer.
  2. In Blender, go to File > User Preferences > Add-ons
  3. Press Install From File... and select the zip file.
  4. Enable the DAZ importer.

  1. Hi I have one serious question about bulding BVH with cycles render view.
    When I import Figure with cloth, hair, blender viewport (cycles render mode) work well.

    Even though I apply sub-D, or apply shrinkwrap modifier with vertexgroup, I can still use 3d view with cycles render. but once I import facial unit, Blender can not build BVH well as same as before.

    Usage memory become so huge. and often not finish to ciculate scene. Even though I do not change any value of Face unit drivers, I need to keep other mode for 3d view, to keep working. or need test render to see mat or current righting. can not use 3d view with cycles render mode.

    I test with CPU and GPU but about both case, once import facial unit (and maybe other dirvers for facial pose) slow down view port, drastically with cycles. Could you check it please? there seems some up-date problem I feel. my machine is actually powerful enough I believe then,, if it happe for me,, maybe most of standard PC user can not use 3d view with cyles, I feel. (if they import facial unit,)

    And even though I remove facial unit, if I once import it, BVH slow down problem remain. I saved the blend scene, after remove those drivers, then re-start blender, open the scene,, not work. to return 3d view with cycles, I need to start from importing scene by dsf, and collada, without import facial unit,,)

  2. Current beta version almost remove this problem thanks!!
    if someone see same problem with cycles view port, try thse step.
    "remove all morph" once, then at the top of the Morph section: Use Helping Props (Use Handlers would be probably be a better name) is off, handlers are not used. then try to import "face unit" again.

    If you use this potion, there is case which can not import all expression
    (eg you can import face unit, expression, but fail some visemis,
    or you can import expression, visems ,but fail some expression)
    maybe user need to choose which we hope,, at current. but for cycles user, I recommend,, set morph>helping prop = off. because without cycles view,, but can only test render, then adjust good mat and see expression detail for cycles is very difficult for me. or need so many test render.

  4. Though I still request somethings, I really like to use this plug in to import daz character and props in my favorite 3d aprication blender..

    I really enjoy tweaking daz scene in blender, it enhance me to learn blender more. (drivers, rigging, shape keys, blender animation tools, detail of weight map etc)

    There are not enough words to express my gratitude thanks Thomas Rasson to offer this plug in , and keep up-date. hope you enjoy life and keep your health.
